Moving to Michigan

Following an AMAZING honeymoon in Hawaii, we had a couple days to get everything organized and then we were off to Michigan! We caravaned with my mom (driving my car) and John's parents (driving his car), and we drove the HUGE rental truck.

That thing was a beast - we couldn't go over 70 mph the entire trip, and we were often cruising around 45 mph while going through the NC and TN mountains. We stopped for dinner at Cracker Barrel somewhere in Tennessee or Kentucky and finally arrived in Cincinatti to stay the night.

After the long drive we finally made it to Royal Oak and we, thankfully, had pre-arranged to have a team of movers come unload the truck. That was such a huge help - moving furniture is the WORST! Once they had unloaded everything, we had the task to organize everything. It was overwhelming but thanks to Emma and my mom, we had the kitchen almost finished by the first night.

We knew we were going to paint the walls, so we waited to unpack everything until we finished that. Our families were such huge helps - we never could've done it without them. We finished the kitchen wall, the living room, and the master and guest bedrooms in about a day and a half.

After being with us for three days, our parents left and we finished all the organizing and also did a lot of shopping/returning at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and Meijer. It was a lot of fun to set up our apartment and make it our own. We picked out curtains for the kitchen and family room, a slip cover for the couch, throw pillows, a small table for the entry way from Home Goods, a lamp set for the family room, and a few other odds and ends. Thank goodness for wedding money and gift cards! See below for some "after pictures" - there have been some changes made since these were taken but you can still see the huge difference!
